Dr. Samuel Christian Friedrich Hahnemann, M.D.
Samuel Hahnemann was the founder of Homoeopathy. He established the fundamental principles of the science and art of Homoeopathy.
He is described in the college's historical account as a pioneer of experimental pharmacology because of his practice of preparing medicines in a specialised way and testing substances on healthy human beings to observe their effects.
Hahnemann investigated substances of plant, mineral and other origins and developed the preparation process known in Homoeopathy as potentisation.
Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy was developed by the German physician Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann in the late eighteenth century. The system is premised on the principle “Similia Similibus Curentur”, commonly expressed as “let likes be treated by likes”.
Within homeopathic theory, a substance capable of producing a pattern of symptoms in a healthy person is selected in highly diluted preparation for a patient presenting a similar symptom pattern.
Preparation of Homoeopathic Medicines
Homoeopathic preparations may originate from plant, mineral, animal and other substances. They are prepared using serial dilution and agitation, a process traditionally known as dynamisation or potentisation.
Individualised Approach
The homeopathic tradition places emphasis on the individual patient and considers the totality of reported symptoms when selecting a remedy. Historical homeopathic teaching also uses the concept of a “vital force” when describing health, disease and recovery.
Homoeopathy in Contemporary Healthcare
Homoeopathy continues to be taught and practised in India within its established educational and regulatory framework. Patients may seek homeopathic care for a wide range of health concerns.
